About Persides > Capabilities > Modelling

Persides has an extensive modelling capability that augments all areas of its service and products business ranging from proof-of-principle technical simulation through to comprehensive process modelling.

In support of its modelling skills, Persides uses a combination of MoD tools, MoD preferred commercial tools, best commercial practice, and in-house proprietary tools.

The commercial and MoD tools used include:

  • WITNESS simulation model for complex support and in-service modelling and analysis.  The capability provided by this toolset includes:
    1. Rapid evaluation and comparison of potential support options to determine which presents the most cost-effective solution
    2. Evaluation of process efficiency to establish where resources could be improved or adapted to deliver a more effective service
    3. Evaluation of Operational Availability by enabling all supportability drivers to randomly influence support within a defined scenario.  This is the only effective means of stochastically representing the full range of support factors to reflect “real-life”
  • RELEX for Availability, Reliability and Maintainability assessments of service delivery.  The capability provided by this toolset includes: evaluation of system design against customer requirements, reliability prediction and apportionment, Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), Fault Tree Analysis and Maintainability Analysis.
  • SEER toolset for estimating costs of electronics, software and manufacturing development programmes.  This capability is achieved by combining sophisticated data models and algorithms with extensive and extensible knowledge bases derived from actual industry experience.  Integration with Microsoft Project also enables the generation of detailed project plans directly from a SEER project structure.  Persides typically uses this toolset to model costs in bid management tasks, procurement, design change studies and market pricing.
  • MATLAB for technical and mathematical modelling and simulation during all phases of the design initiation and proving activities.
  • Excel based Cost Of Ownership (COO) models similar to the MoD ACREDIT COO spreadsheets .
  • The MoD Support Solutions Envelope (SSE), a website based tool that provides visibility of the coherence and compliance of a support solution across the four key areas of: logistic support and sustainability; supportability engineering; joint supply chain; and logistic information.
Persides proprietary integrated Data Analysis Tool (iDAT) [link] provides a comprehensive but low cost LSAR, and also supports Life Cycle Cost modelling and an automated DRACAS based incident reporting system used for analysing trials and fielding performance. iDAT provides a cost effective alternative to the high start-up, operating and maintenance costs of the relational database LSARs.

All Persides bids and projects have benefited from the application of these tools in conjunction with the skill and experience of Persides’ relevant subject matter experts.
